| Art Based research Methods Arts-Based Research Methods: Materials This cross-listed course o/ers an overview of arts-based research as an interdisciplinary, humanistic, and material research methodology. This course also explores alternative methods of art making by growing and utilizing our own materials and researching the local environment. In addition to field trips, this course includes speculative and humanistic research in the UIC Art Garden (https://www.anthropocene-lab.com), Cook County Forest Preserve Archives, and selection of works by practicing artists. Material study includes the garden, water, charcoal, bees wax, natural dyes, mushrooms, and photosynthesis. Professor Geissler is faculty in Art and a member of the Anthropocene Commons. Geisslers work concerns how human actions transform the planet and how those transformations alter our existence.
