Introduction to Creative Coding in New Media Arts

Moving through beginning and intermediate levels of coding, students will explore creative new avenues of applying these tools. Students will gain skills to expand upon traditional uses of coding by aligning it with the contemporary art practices of New Media, a field in which technology and contemporary art combine. Introduction to Socially Engaged Art

Art and Resistance: Socially Engaged Art

Material covered in class will include DaDa which arose as reaction to World War I, German artist Joseph Beuys and his notion of Social Sculpture and his involvement in the Organization for Direct Democracy and the Green Party, the role art and design played in the Black Panther Party, the Guerilla Girls and their feminist critique of art institutions.
