The objective is, for people who do not know Arabic, to gain a basic knowledge of Classical Arabic literature and to cultivate an appreciation of Arab culture. Please note: the focus will be on classical (medieval) texts, but we will not exclude forays into the modern era. Thus, we will delve into the different ways Arab literati have negotiated the transition to European genres such as novel writing, drama, and modern poetry. Taught in English. Prerequisite(s): Completion of the English Composition requirement.
